What is The Rescue Run?

The Rescue Run is a fundraising event for RSPCA NSW held from 18-31 October. It has been organised to raise money to help RSPCA’s inspectors stop cruelty towards animals. Participants commit to running, walking, or rolling 67 kilometres during the designated week either as individuals or in teams.

Why 67 kilometres?

With 67 animals experiencing cruelty every day in NSW, we’ve chosen 67 km to be our goal. One kilometer for every animal at risk, to remember why we’re running to the rescue.

Who can take part?

The Rescue Run is open to everyone! Whether you’re a dog-lover, cat-person, or prefer more exotic creatures in your life, this is your chance to get moving for a stronger, healthier you.

Just choose the level that’s right for you, set your own pace and get in the kilometres your way. Every kilometre will help animals in need – you don’t need a pet to join in!

While the challenge is to reach 67 km, you can choose the distance that’s accessible for you, and we’ll cheer you along!

How much does it cost to register?

Nothing. It’s free to sign up!

How does it work?

Once you sign up,  you’ll receive your personal fundraising page and access to our resources. You can then spread the word to your friends and family. Fundraising is open from the time you join and there are prizes for top fundraisers!

From the moment you register, we’ll be there with tips and support to help you.

When and where is The Rescue Run?

The challenge takes place during October 18-31. You can run on any day that suits you, and anywhere that works for you. You can complete the challenge on one day or go bike riding across multiple days during the month.

Does The Rescue Run need to comply with COVID-19 restrictions?

Yes. If you’re joining as a team, you should adhere to social distancing rules, as well as the public and social gathering restrictions in your local area, state or territory.

You can find links to the latest information on the Australian Government Department of Health website.

What do I have to do?

It’s simple! Just register for the challenge during October 18-31 and ask your friends to sponsor you to raise money for RSPCA.  Every kilometre will raise money to help the 67 vulnerable animals at risk of cruelty every day.

Where do the funds go that I raise?

The funds you raise will go to The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals; New South Wales (RSPCA NSW), and will be used to help care for, treat, protect and rehome animals across the state.

We not only serve animals in need, but also owners who require guidance and support. Our programs tackle animal education and assistance in relation to domestic violence, aged care, homelessness, mental health, and more.

Is there a minimum amount I have to raise?

There’s no minimum fundraising target, and no limit on the amount you can raise. We’d love you to raise as much as you can!

Every dollar you raise will help us save dogs, cats, and animals from a life of cruelty – helping us find safe forever homes. If you’re stuck on how to boost your fundraising, please email us at fundraising@rspcansw.org.au

How do I update my fundraising goal?

Log in to your Rescue Run account and head to your dashboard. Click on ‘Edit my page’ and update your fundraising goal.

How do I bank any offline fundraising money I raise?

The best way to bank your offline fundraising money is through your online fundraising page with your credit card. Your total fundraising amount will then be shown on your page.

What resources are available to help me fundraise?

Your online fundraising page makes it easy for you to get donations and spread the word about The Rescue Run.

We’ve also created  resources to help you fundraise. You can download all of these resources from your fundraising page’s dashboard. It’s all there to help you run to the rescue.

Can I post my photos or details on RSPCA NSW social media pages?

Absolutely! We’d love to see what a champ you are. You can post your photos and use #RescueRun. Don’t forget that sharing photos of you on your run will show your supporters that you’re committed to the challenge.

Who do I contact if I have any other questions?

We're always here to help. Give us a call on (02) 9782 4494 or email us at fundraising@rspcansw.org.au

I've shared my page on Facebook asking for donations using the Facebook Donate button. Will the money I raise come to RSPCA NSW?

Yes. However, we recommend you don’t use the Facebook Donate button to raise money for The Rescue Run, as we can’t link any donations back to your fundraising page.

If you’ve already set up a post, we suggest that you:

Delete the post, as this is the only way to remove the Facebook Donate button; and Create a new Facebook post and share the link to your fundraising page without adding the ‘Donate’ button.

Why aren't the donations I'm receiving through Facebook showing up on my fundraising page?

Facebook donations are handled and held by a third party, so we can’t link them to your Rescue Run fundraising page. Given these limitations, we recommend you don’t use the Facebook Donate button to fundraise.

If you’d like your Facebook friends and followers to donate to The Rescue Run, we encourage you to share the link to your fundraising page on your social media pages instead.
